The biggest thing I've learned since I've been in Mexico.. That's a loaded question, I know that me being able to live with Alfonzo Martinez has been the best thing for me in Mexico. I have learned so much from Alfonzo how to be a man of prayer, led by the Spirit, husband, father, and student of the word. Alfonzo has modeled these righteous characteristics and I desire greatly to grow in those areas. He has also showed me how to be a humble servant and selfless leader. On this trip I have learned how to be effective in the Mexican culture, I've learned many new words in Spanish and how to have a conversation that goes beyond the normal introduction questions. On this trip I have had to cope with being the only guy on the team, how to communicate with 3 very different women. I have learned much about the different personalities of different girls, sure it's been challenging but I know that as a result I will grow and become a stronger man of God. I have learned how important and vital it is to spend daily time with the Lord in prayer, even back in the states. I am so thankful to be able to spend 3 months in Mexico, I would definitely do it again, in a heart beat. I am so thankful for the people I spent these past 3 months with, Alfonzo & Erika Martinez, Victoria Philips, Megean Fernantez, and Macey Fernandez. Thank You all for praying for me and remembering our team during this season of my life. Hey everybody, hope you are all doing well and your family is healthy. We are over 2/3 of the way done with this trip and I wanted to give you just a brief update of what the Lord is doing here. Despite having a smaller group of students learning guitar I have been having 4 kids show up consistently, their eagerness is inspiring and their devotion to practice shows up from week to week on my 11:00 Wednesday appointment. Leading worship has been going really well at the Women's Rehab Center, we introduced a new song called Nuestro Dios (Our God by Chris Tomlin), I love seeing the women worship and sing out their praise to the Lord even when it's not on key or they don't clap on rhythm, I think that their worship is really beautiful. At Rincon the kids are still full of energy but they are becoming more receptive to the Bible stories we tell them. I love Rincon days (Fridays) because I get to play soccer with them to wear them out so they sit still during the Bible story. About once or twice a month we drive or ride a bus up to Mazatlan to spend some time with the youth from Espiritu y Verdad and attend the 11:00 Sunday service. I really enjoy the fellowship with the youth most of our conversations center around worship music or bands because that's what I love and know. I personally have really enjoyed living with Alfonzo and Erika Martinez, the missionaries here in Escuinapa, they are my parents for these past 3 months, I know I will miss them greatly. Alfonzo has poured a lot into me and I know much of what he's taught me I will take into my future as a student, husband, and father. So yeah, that's just a snapshot of what's been happening in my life personally and what God has been doing in the hearts of the youth and kids in Mexico! Wow! I can't believe that this 3 month trip is half over already! Much has happened while we have been here and I am even more expectant for what will happen in the second half of the trip. The biggest single coadherant principle that I have learned, I read fromthe Jim Elliott Biography: Shadow of the Almighty. A quote that stuck out to me in the preface was, "Obedience is an expression of love to God." and I did a word study through Blue Letter Bible of the word obedience and I learned that the word obedience means to listen or hear. While I am here in Mexico it is vital that I am listening to the voice of the Lord unto a response. Obedience is hearing what the Lord desires then acting on it, nothing pleases God more than when His children obey him. The Lord also revealed to me that obedience is not picking and choosing what I want to obey or not, obedience is following whatever God asks of me whether it is convenient or not. I got the clinical symptoms of Typhoid Fever for 7 days and during that time I was really sick, I had a lot of time to think about my life and where I have gone and ahead to where I'm going. The Lord has been speaking to me and when I get back to the States I will be attending college at MTSU and studying a pre-med major. 30 Day Recap (Mexico 2012)

The past 30 days have been very full and busy. So far our team has gone to the Tepehuanes twice, participated in a 3-day youth retreat with the youth group from Mazatlan, I have given music lessons at a high school, I have the opportunity to lead worship every Sunday at the Women's Drug Rehab Center in Escuinapa, we are also involved in a village called Rincon which is a poverty stricken village just outside Escuinapa, we are really involved with the kids there in Rincon, every Thursday we do a service project for the ecology department of Escuinapa, we usually pick up trash along the highways or clean out riverbeds. So as you can see we have been very busy serving here in Escuinapa as well as in Mazatlan. The Lord has been moving greatly among the people here in Mexico, the main difference from American and Mexican believers and nonbelievers alike is their faith. Here in Mexico when you pray for someone's healing, they actually get healed. Since I've been here in Mexico 4 people have received the Lord, most if not an entire youth group was filled with the Holy Spirit and released in their spiritual language, demons were cast out of a possessed man, and a woman's hand was healed from being swollen. I am so thankful to have this opportunity to take part in what God is doing here in Mexico. One of my favorite experiences here in Mexico has been going to the city plaza on Sunday nights. At the plazuela, as it is called here, I meet new people, practice my Spanish, and play my guitar while hanging out with the team and nationals. I can't believe that my trip is already 1/3 over, it's like just started, its like finishing the Fellowship of the Ring and realizing that there's only two more! God is good, I'm learning so much about the culture and God is teaching me new ways to live in this different culture that I can bring back with me to the United States. I am so blessed to be living with Alfonzo, Erika, and Alfonsito Martinez, they have been such an encouragement to me and my spiritual parents since I've been here. Thanks for praying for me! Prayer. We all must pray. In the mission field if you don't pray it's like going into battle with no armor. What soldier goes into battle with no armor on? Spiritually we must be equipped and ready to war in the spirit everyday. If you think spiritual warfare is just a walk in the park and is easy, try living in a foreign country for 3 months. Since I've been in Escuinapa for 21 days I have sensed and felt a spiritual heaviness over this city, and everyday that I would shorten my time with the Lord or not pray my entire day would be thrown off. If you don't go out prayed up and continuing to war in the spirit the devil/enemy will pick you off. When I'm walking through the streets of Escuinapa Mexico I pray in my spiritual language under my breath. I am never silently doing anything, I always fill my mind with scripture and I pray in the spirit whenever I am. When I think about people, whether here in Mexico, back home in the U.S., or even abroad in other countries I pray for them. I believe that when a person comes to mind the Holy Spirit drops that name for me to specifically pray for them. Part of the morning prayer needs to be being filled with the Holy Spirit. A fresh daily filling of the Holy Spirit is needed so that when you listen and obey the Spirit will guide you to the specific assignments each day. Prayer is vital. Count your blessings when you pray, be thankful- live a lifestyle of thanksgiving, don't let all your prayers be one way asking God for everything. Lastly when you read the word of God don't just read it, study it and apply it to your life. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Wow! A lot has happened between now and the last time I've posted. The Lord has been showing me the importance of praying in every circumstance and to utilize my spiritual language. While in Escuinapa there are more strongholds of homosexuality, alcoholism, and idolatry with the Catholic church; I am finding that prayer is a necessary supplement along with Vitamins C, D, and eating meats. At a youth camp recently that our team attended I had the opportunity to pray for a boy to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, even though we prayed and waited for a long while he did not receive his spiritual language, but through the whole experience I learned to pray in the power and authority that Christ has given us. God is also showing me through the Beth Moore study of The Life and Ministry of Paul about forgiveness through Stephens testimony and death of Jesus as a sacrifice for all of our sin. I desire to have unconditional forgiveness just like Stephen and Jesus, no matter how big or small, to be able to release hurt and anger to the Lord no matter the person or how they affected me spiritually . God is good and I am so blessed to be living with Alfonzo and Erika Martinez, it is really meat getting an inside perspective of what day-to-day life is like for a missionary in Mexico. I am really enjoying the culture, food, the people, and the opportunity to take part in what God is already doing in Mexico. Thank You so much for your prayers, I hope that as you pray for me that you would remember to pray for the 3 other girls that are with me here in Mexico. So much has happened I hope that when I get back to the states I can catch up with you all personally and show you the many pictures I have been taking and the stories of what the Lord has done!

Hi everyone I hope you are staying warm back in the states, you don't have to worry about me because the average temperature here is 70 degrees Fahrenheit. God is good and He is at work here in Mexico. Let me give you a snapshot of how he is moving. One morning this week I had to go escort the girls from their apartment to breakfast, I didn't know where to go and so I started praying in the Spirit. The Lord stopped me and I turned around from where I was and the Lord directed me to their apartment. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to protect the girls through the streets of Escuinapa. Much of the time I am praying in the Spirit as we walk. God has done so much while I have been in Mexico for only 1 week. Today at church 3 women gave their lives to the Lord. The church is held in a Women's Drug Rehab center and one of the ladies who gave her life to the Lord was in my small group. Yesterday we had the opportunity to go to an unreached indian tribe called the Tepehuanes and do some kids ministry. Most of the time we play a type of freeze tag and all the kids end up running after me. I am so happy to be with these kids, the Tepehuanes are known for their agriculture and their laughter. The top thing I am learning here in Mexico is thanksgiving. Being thankful is a lifestyle, when I start and end my day with speaking my praise I know God gets all the glory.

Today is day 3 of 85, I am so happy to be in Mexico, when we arrived on the 4th, it felt normal, like I was coming home. I have never felt so peaceful even amidst this busy culture. On Saturday night we were able to go to spend time with the youth group in Mazatlan, I love worshipping with them, and seeing their unhindered passionate worship. On Sunday we had the opportunity to go and be with the Espiritu y Verdad church, while we were there in the ministry time at the end of the service Pastor Joe Pacheco prophesied over me saying that my life is like a plateau and that God is going to be putting a mountain in my way and I will need to make a decision of boldness to climb and take on the challenge. I am encouraged and challenged by this word, I have some understanding of what the Lord is calling me to after Global Boot Camp but I am still unsure. I know that college is in my future, I know that if I pursue medical school that will be a mountain of a challenge. Right now I am in Escuinapa with Pastor John Hall, we will slowly get accustomed to the lifestyle here. We still don't know what our schedule is, but I am totally fine living led by the Spirit. Wow! The Lord is faithful, just in this weekend alone, 7 days before I leave the United States to live in Mexico for 3 months, God provides the remaining money for my trip! God is so good, in Spanish I would say to the Lord: Eres Fiel! I am getting really excited to leave for Mexico, these final 6 days before I leave are going to be the longest days ever! This past weekend we got prayed out by our Life Groups, parents, mentors, and New Song Nashville and I feel really equipped and ready to go. I know that the leaders over me are confident in releasing me for these 3 months. As I am preparing for Mexico I really don't feel very nervous but instead I am really excited to start living day-by-day-by-the-Spirit. I know that while our team is in Mexico we will need to be carefully listening to the Holy Spirit and allow him to guide us. One of the words spoken over our team was that we have each others back, as we are in Mexico we will be watching out and covering for each other by serving and preferring each other above our own. So as you are praying for us pray for:

• unity within our team 
• health
• safe travels

I have 12 days before I leave for Mexico for 3 months!!! I cannot wait to see all that the Lord will do while we are down there. I feel ready to go and as I have talked with my parents, leaders, and mentors they feel ready to release me off to Mexico on this 3 month journey. I know that this trip will be challenging as I have learned here to lay down my preferences and be patient and selfless; on the mission field I will need to be even more on guard. In these last weeks before leaving, the excitement has been rising within us as a team. The Lord has been showing me in the word how the way we treat and love each other will be evident to the people we come into contact with (John 13:35). While in Mexico even though my Spanish isn't very good I know that when I have the opportunity to speak that my actions will back up the words I speak. I want my life to be an example to all the people I come into contact with, not in a prideful way but an example that points others to Christ. I am so excited! I can't even wrap my head around the reality that I will be living, eating, and sleeping in a foreign country for 3 months in less than 12 days! Our plane leaves Nashville at 7:00 on February 4th. I am needing $900 still to fully pay off this trip, if you could donate financially it would be greatly appreciated. Even as we are preparing as a team we have been in constant spiritual warfare in regards to the unity of our team. It is the devils intent to destroy our team, but God has specifically called each one of us to this program and has a purpose for us. Today I attended a conference called Engage 2020. The entire focus for this conference was evangelism. Tonight is the beginning of a great work that God is doing. I was personally prophesied over by an elder in our church body and was called out by name and released as an evangelist. Now that I have been released into the office of Evangelist it helps me focus my purpose even more on God's will for my life. I know what I must do to practically apply this to my life, it is called the S.A.L.T principle. It is something that the Lord has been stirring in me this new year. S stands for 'start conversations' engage people by A 'asking questions', then L listen to the person, and then respond by T telling the gospel message. I must embrace this calling and walk in the authority that Christ has given us and walk in the victory that has already been won. Another aspect of this conference was a tool called the GodTest. The GodTest is a small booklet consisting of 10 questions to bring attention to the worldview and/or beliefs of the person taking the test. The GodTest is designed to promote dialogue on the critical questions surrounding Faith, skepticism, and the purpose of life. I am so fired up and excited for all the opportunities I'll have to lead people to the Lord! This Engage 2020 conference was very igniting and I'm ready to go with an even more focus to live out the purpose God intended for me as an Evangelist for Jesus Christ.

Hey everybody, many of you may already know but for those of you who don't , we as a Global Boot Camp team will be going to Mexico for 3 months. I am so expectant and excited for the power of God to move through us and touch the lives of the people we come into contact with. There are 3 major places we will be visiting in Mexico are Mazatlan, Escuinapa, and a village of the Tepehuane Indians. Primarily we will be involved with a variety of ministries such as kids ministry, worship arts, construction, teaching music, as well as building strong relationship with our strategic missionaries in Mexico. We will be staying with Alfonzo and Erika Martinez in their home in Escuinapa. Before I can leave I have to pay off the trip, right now I owe $1,000.00 I am needing a the most 10 people to commit $100 each to sending me to Mexico. God is good, He has provided $3,000.00 to make this trip possible, I know this is Gods will for my life in this season and so I ask you to prayerfully consider how the Lord would have you support me. There are two main ways you can help: 1. Financial support, 2. Prayer support. God is at work among the nations and I am so excited to be a part of what He is doing. Praise the Lord! God is Good! The Global Boot Camp 5K Run for Missions went really well, about 30 runners and/or volunteers showed up to the race and we harvested about $1,000! These past 4 months have been very busy as we have been volunteering with ministries such as Against the Grain, Second Harvest Food Bank, and New Song Christian Academy. We are getting closer and closer to leaving, I am so excited, we have less than 8 weeks until we leave! I would like to bring to your attention the huge financial need for the trip that still remains. As a team we are needing to harvest $6,000 accumulatively. We don’t know which country we are going to because of the lack of finances to purchase plane tickets. Our options are either Dominican Republic or Mexico, and we will be living with our strategic partners associated with New Song Christian Fellowship, for 3 months. Prayer support is still greatly needed for our team to be able to go on this trip. We have been told by our directors that either as a team we all go or we all stay. I know for me personally God told me and my parents that I was to take a year off and give it to the Lord by participating in Global Boot Camp. God has promised me that I will go. I don’t doubt it, I know He is my provider because he has already provided $2,500 for Global Boot Camp. There is no plan B, we are going, as my faith rises I hope that you will prayerfully consider and seek the Lord on an amount to sow into our team. GBC is going really well. We have been kept very busy gathering donations for Against the Grain’s annual Christmas Shoppe which lets lower income families children pick out gifts for their parents who normally wouldn’t normally be able to afford gifts for themselves. It’s a lot of fun driving around to different stores and receiving the donations and setting up collection boxes. As of right now we have 120 small gifts and our goal is to harvest 500 total. It has been really interesting living by faith, not knowing where these 500 gifts are coming from or even where we are going on our 3 month missions trip or even knowing who our leader will be. Something the Lord has been teaching me is this: “(God speaking) Do you really trust me and love me enough to not worry about where you will be going for 3 months?” I am expectant, I know God holds it all together and has my best in store, He knows exactly where we are going, who our leader is and where the money is coming from to pay for the trip. In and of myself I can’t make this happen, but God is faithful and always comes through. God is The Provider. Global Boot Camp is hosting a 5K Run for Missions, the primary reason we are doing this is because we are in need of about $8,000 total for our cost needed for everyone to go on the 3 month trip. If you would like to sponsor us to run it would be greatly appreciated. God is good and I am blessed to be part of this amazing process God is teaching me. I was reading in my Perspectives book the other day and the passage of scripture the article focused on was Matthew 25, and more specifically the 6 physical forms of need. The article was entitled The State of World Need the majority of the article was focused on presenting statistics of hunger, water and preventable diseases throughout the world. I was floored by the numbers I read: for 2/3 of people worldwide hunger is a lifestyle, over 1,000,000,000 people lack access to clean water, there are 32.9 million refugees scattered across the globe, millions die every year from preventable diseases. The conclusion of this article was focused specifically on us to not be lulled into inactivity because of the enormous size of the task, but that collectively we can meet the needs of the world as a big team rather than one or two of us by ourselves. The statistics also showed that Americans spend 30-50 million dollars on diets and other low calorie food expenses, but yet hundreds die of cardiovascular diseases and obesity: Americans eat themselves to death. After I read this article I was reminded of a passage in scripture from Philippians 4:12 “I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.” verse 11 “…I have learned to be content with whatever I have…” I have thought about this passage a lot lately. I have always known how blessed we are in America, (I know it’s cliché, Thanksgiving is right around the corner) but if I step back and examine American culture and society as a whole, even though we have everything we need or could want, selfishness is rampant. Being content. “I have learned to be content with whatever I have.” Kids who want to give their food on their plate to kids in Africa get chuckles from adults, but really… for under 25$ one can give a gift of rabbits, chickens, bed nets, or clean water funding for people in 3rd world countries. I can’t believe even how selfish and self centered I am, I live in America and I know how to live with everything, a full stomach, and with plenty; but like Paul I want to learn the secret of living in every situation. Even in preparation for the 3 month missions trip to either Dominican Republic or Mexico, I want to prepare myself to be able to live with little or with almost nothing. America is a cruise ship, I want to get off and really see what the daily life is actually like in the rest of the world. You may be reading this and be thinking, “Wow, that’s good for him, but I don’t know how to take action to help.” Let me tell you right up front that prayer is the greatest weapon next to the word of God. We must be praying for the nations and interceding for the gospel to be spread wide across the globe. Secondly find and research missions organizations to financially support on a regular basis. I am in preparation to be going on a 3 month missions trip in January and needing to harvest $2,000 for the trip. If you would prayerfully consider financially supporting me that would be greatly appreciated. As of right now the directors of Global Boot Camp have not yet decided if our team will go to the Dominican Republic or Mexico. I am really excited how God will provide for this trip, I am so thankful for you who have faithfully prayed and sown into me during this season of Global Boot Camp. Blessings.

One of the ministries we volunteer with is Against the Grain, a ministry dedicated to assisting single moms and their kids. Specifically for Global Boot Camp our involvement with AtG is with their Study Buddy program at Liberty Elementary. My involvement is one-on-one tutoring with a kindergarten boy whose parents are in jail. My role is primarily to tutor him in math and reading as well as to be a positive male role model or big brother to him. I go with the other girls in the program twice a week to tutor these kids. The more and more I am around kids the more I long to be a Dad. I am loving the experience of Global Boot Camp, especially with the ministries we are volunteering with.

Right now I am in need of $1,855. I know God has called me to be part of Global Boot Camp but it seems that there is still such a long way to go financially. This morning I prayed for the support letters I sent a few weeks ago as well as the Facebook message reminders. I don't know exactly how the Lord is going to provide but it really doesn't matter, I just know He always comes through. I was reading in Hebrews today and was encouraged when I read: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23 I have a settled confidence in a secure future that the Lord will provide because He is faithful and gracious to provide for His children. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Right now this dollar amount seems to be an overwhelming giant of a mountain but I know that my faith in Christ will grow as I believe and stand firm in knowing Christ as the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end, and as Jehovah Jirah, our provider. I know I’m within Christ’s will because I am learning so much throughout the process, I have a confidence that however the Lord provides for me that He will still be given all the glory and honor. It would be greatly appreciated if you could financially or prayerfully support me during this season of my life. Today marks the 11th week of my enrollment in the program. I am still so excited for where God has yet to send us! Thank you so much for you who are praying for me, it is a blessing to know that I am being covered in prayer.

Praise the Lord! God is good and is always faithful! I am so blessed to be part of Global Boot Camp. The Lord has provided me a place to stay during the week instead of driving to and from Mufreesboro 45 minutes everyday. I am so thankful for the family I am staying with, they were very gracious to open up their home to me. God is doing great things in my life as I do all the necessary reading for this program. I learn so much every day that I can hardly retain all of the information from the reading. In my Perspectives class one of my favorite articles is written by Hudson Taylor and I love how selfless he was to seek after Gods will. The most fascinating thing for me was that he looked in his library and wardrobe and cut out all unnecessary books and clothes so he could sell them for money to get him to China. God is always faithful! Hudson Taylor is now one of my favorite missionaries. I have had several opportunities to share the gospel with people we serve from Second Harvest Food Bank and the after-school program at the Coleman Center in the Nolensville/Woodbine area. You can pray for me that God would give me strategies in which to engage people in the gospel. I also am in need of turning in $400 for a October monthly payment for my missions trip which is in January. You all can also be praying that God will reveal to the program coordinators where we are to go for the 3 month trip; the options are Dominican Republic or Mexico. So far in GBC I am really enjoying the homework material and the people. I love coming into class each day and getting my mind blown away by the lessons I learn that are a paradigm or perspective shift. I am beginning to see more and more of how America is selfish, even in my own life. America is on a cruise ship, anything we might need, food, medical care is less than a 10 minute drive away down the road. God has a greater purpose than for me to just stay sitting comfortably, I must get beyond my flesh and step off of the cruise ship. There is a world that needs to hear the gospel, I need to get beyond my selfishness to spread it. Through these many classes the Lord is opening my eyes and giving me understanding of His Kingdom Plan. Instead of seeking the Lord for my purpose in life, it is more about what is God’s purpose and how can I accomplish His purpose. I am purposed to bring glory to God, bless the nations, and to advance the Kingdom by being a witness to the gospel in words and actions. Thank You so much for your prayers. I’m still believing for $2,000 and if you could give that would be a blessing. I have $500 that is due on October 1st so if you want to help out financially that is my greatest need right now. Today is the end of my first week in GBC. So far it has been an orientation week with tons of forms and waivers. It has been really fun hanging out and interacting with the other GBCers. If you didn’t know already I am the only boy in the program. There are three other girls also in the program with me. I have started a Perspectives class and did an International Bible School lesson but besides that this week has been really light, almost a smooth entry or transition into the program. On a volunteer basis we will be involved with after school tutoring with Against the Grain ministries (focused on helping single mothers), Second Harvest food bank, and helping with the New Song Christian Academy. Today we had an opportunity to help at Second Harvest in the Woodbine/ Nolensville area. If you know anything about Woodbine then you know about all the different ethnic groups that are represented there. I was able to help distribute food to people speaking Spanish, Arabic, and English. Even though there was a language barrier I am so glad I can be a blessing to them. I am blessed to be a blessing! Thanks for your prayers!
